The Art Center of Pasadena, California is linking its upcoming Art Center Design Conference with the launch of Wrap Magazine, the next incarnation of the Fish Wrap publication. The theme for this joint project is "Serious Play," a term which encompasses all the work done at the Art Center.

In this episode of Designing Minds, students Saejean Oh and Kathryn McFarlane explain how they chose Benjamin Franklin as the subject of their Serious Play project. Rather than focus on his political work, they consider the curiosity and sense of humor which aided Franklin in all his endeavors. The illustrator and graphic designer create a visually arresting piece, the look of which they stumble upon accidentally - not unlike many of the greatest inventors.

If you know the New York City club scene, you should know Trevor. Trevor is the most famous doorman in New York claiming that not only does he know people, but “I know people that know me.” Trevor is also flaky, air-headed, cocky, and fails to mention to the documentary crew following him around that he was fired from his job. In this mockumentary…er…”fictional documentary,” director Wayne Price chronicles the fall of Trevor, whose arrogance gets him blacklisted from any doorman job in New York. Zoom In Online’s Jim Rohner talked to Wayne Price about the making of the film and Price shared where the idea stemmed from, how he went about shooting it, and much more. The Doorman opens in New York and San Francisco on July 18th with subsequent national release to follow.

Through music, Andrew W.K. has been able to pursue his many disparate interests. It's led him from Michigan all the way to the Warped Tour, the cover of countless magazines, appearances on tv shows, lecture halls at Yale, articles in the New York Times, and now to the Santos Party House, his very own performance and party space in New York City.

In this episode of Rehearsal Space, Andrew talks about the changes he saw first-hand as the music industry adapted from its Golden Era to the economical version of it we see today. He also discusses his ideas about the nature of public image, his creative cooperation with the audience, and why words can never accurately express how music affects people.

In this episode of Designing Minds, student illustrator Kerry Hyatt and student graphic designer Paula Hansanugrum join together to create a project using iconic American imagery such as tv dinners, comic books, and the vintage game Operation. By choosing a main character who is a hypochondriac obsessed with advertised medications, their final piece holds a mirror up to modern life in America.
